The New Tata Indica

The 2008 Auto Expo is ruled by TATA with the Tata Nano, the new macho Sumo, Indigo CS and the new Indica, they all were put up and the crowd at the Tata stalls was great. Tata's greatest seller is given yet another makeover and this time its not just the headlights. There is more to it..

Not only the Nano got most of the views, the Indica too got many. The Indica was the car that gave Tata hope to move forward. Its been like atleast a decade now and all the change i had seen till now were the tail and the head lamps, now they thought their Hero car - Indica required a massive change and they had been working to get a new look to it, something different, something that will make people say "Wow! is that an Indica?".
The new Indica looks more sharper keeping in mind the European customers as well. The new Indica has increased in length width and height - 3795mm, 1695mm and 1550mm respectively. The new aggressive swiped out headlights gives the car a massive change in the front with the same grille with a little chrome on top and the Indigo-like bumper. If you ask me the front part gets all the credit, its well built and modern. The wheels will be bigger and will have tubeless tyres. Tata had used some lines and curves in the side and back, some thing i hadn't seen from them. The rear spoils the whole modern thingy look, the rear is still the same, or somewhat the same.

The new Indica will co-exist among the other Indica's. For this 2 new engines have been borrowed from their allaince-partner Fiat. There will be a 1.2 L Safire MPFI VVT petrol engine and a 1.3 L Quadra Jet common rail direct injection diesel, these engines will be manufactured at the new Tata-Fiat joint venture plant at Ranjangaon in Maharashtra. The new Indica will have a 5-speed synchromesh gearbox with overdrive.
The Indica has been heaven when it comes to space, many people loved it because of the space and comfort, but there were issues of materials used. Now Tata has changed the entire look of the dashboard with new steering wheel and the instrument cluster in the center and beautifully laid out center console. With the wheelbase increased upto 70mm, the space is bound to increase, that means more love..

The car will start production at the last quarter of the year. The car will be priced a little higher than the current Indica. The car looks good and interiors are great with enormous space and Tata had said that they will improve their service and will increase their dealership and service centers. So i think there is serious problem for the Swift, Getz and the Aveo U-VA.
